MP for Maungakiekie Denise Lee is excited to have been appointed the National Party spokesperson for Local Government (Auckland), saying the new portfolio highlights the critical role Auckland plays in New Zealand's current and future prosperity.
"I'm delighted to work alongside Local Government spokesperson Jacqui Dean, and will relish this new opportunity to challenge the Government to keep crown and council communication lines active," Ms Lee says.
"Auckland is growing more rapidly than anywhere else in the country. It is our only city of an international scale that plays a top-heavy role in driving the interests of New Zealand.
"Local and central government need to work together to develop practical solutions that address current challenges because a thriving, successful Auckland doesn't just matter to Aucklanders, but to every New Zealander.
"This portfolio is a natural fit for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an Auckland Councillor and can ensure the National Party continues to understand and work amongst the many complex, but positive issues Auckland has. I will continue to come up with ideas to take Auckland forward.
“I’ll also be keeping an eye on the Government and ensuring that it acts in the best interests of New Zealanders and Aucklanders.”
