Auckland Transport’s confirmation they will fast-track the construction of a roundabout at the notorious “Crash Corner” intersection is a great win for Onehunga local residents and commuters, MP for Maungakiekie Denise Lee says.
“The Church and Victoria Streets intersection is extremely dangerous and considered one of the most high-risk in Auckland. I’m pleased to hear safety improvements will now be made in November this year.
“We were initially told to wait until late 2020, which just wasn't good enough for the people who have to drive these roads every day.
“It’s been incredible seeing the community rally over the past few months to send Auckland Transport a strong message. I’m thrilled they’ve listened and announced that work will begin with the urgency it deserves.
"These changes will save lives.
“I’m also seeking confirmation on whether the potentially costly interim measures will still go ahead by the end of August.
“I will continue to work with Auckland Transport over the coming months and share updates with our community. To keep up-to-date, visit deniselee.co.nz,” Ms Lee says.
