Mt Wellington parents of Sylvia Park Kindergarten and Sylvia Park School can now safely drop-off and pick-up their children with new parking restrictions along Hamlin Road, MP for Maungakiekie Denise Lee says.
“The new P120 parking restrictions near the Sylvia Park Kindergarten is a welcomed change that will not only relieve the parking pressure along Hamlin Road, but will also increase the safety of our local children, parents and grandparents,” Ms Lee says.
“For the past 10 months, I’ve been working closely with Sylvia Park Kindergarten, Sylvia Park School and the residents of Hamlin Road who were concerned about the safety and visibility of our children during the school drop-offs and pick-ups.
“Sylvia Park Shopping Centre employees and commuters would park on Hamlin Road all day, which created parking chaos. Parents resorted to parking on yellow lines, across driveways, and were forced to walk long distances on broken paving. This simply wasn’t good enough.
“I lobbied Auckland Transport who agreed there was an issue and committed to take action. The parking proposal received a great number of positive responses from community members who supported increasing the parking turnover.
“The newly installed P120 signs is a fantastic result for our Mt Wellington community and a win for our local residents.”
